My name is Elisha Pillay, I am originally from Johannesburg, South Africa. I have obtained a degree in Education through The University of South Africa and majored in English, Biology and Psychology. I am very passionate about teaching and so thrilled to be starting as a group 3 teaching assistant (co-teacher) at Amstelland International School. I will be covering for Ms. Jalene while she is on sick leave and I am confident this will be a great way for me to get to know and interact with my students. My belief is that education is a vital tool that can teach children the fundamental skills necessary to live successful lives as critical thinkers who are confident and informed citizens of their community. I have taught many students from different cultural and language backgrounds. I have experience in teaching English as a second language in the UAE. I have taught various subjects full time in South Africa for the past five years. I have always wanted to teach as teaching changes mindsets. I want my students to know they have someone who believes in them and can do anything they set their minds to irrespective of where they come from. It is my duty and mission to instill a love of life-long learning, develop learners to think critically, and ensure that my students are capable of thriving in today’s world.
In my free time, I love to cook, dance, go quad biking and travel the world. I am exceptionally excited and honored to be at this school and look forward to life-long learning and teaching.
